QUIKRETE® HELPS REPAIR VITAL ST. LOUIS HIGHWAYS |
The QUIKRETE® Companies played a major role in repairing the highways in and around St. Louis, Mo. this summer. Beginning in May 2007, QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix was used to repair 31 highway bridges on Interstates 40, 44, 55, 64 and 270 for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).
Construction crews worked four nights a week through November, from about 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., in order to make repairs to the high-traffic thoroughfares before rush hour began each morning.
Truesdale Corp. of St. Louis, which was hired by MoDOT to complete the repair project, chose to use QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix due to its great workability, quick setup time, being able to set in approximately 30 minutes, and capability of reaching a compressive strength of 3,000 pounds-per-square-inch after 90 minutes; making the roadways safe for morning traffic.
"QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix is ideally suited for this extensive project due to the formulation of the mix," said Kevin Marquandt of the Truesdale Corp. "The material cures quickly, which allows us to complete repairs prior to traffic each day, and offers enough working time for us to ensure the mix is correctly placed before initial setup."
QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix is a rapid-setting repair material specially formulated for use in structural concrete repair, bridge decks, roadways and parking deck applications. Most of the St. Louis interstate repairs involve roadway patching and full-depth repairs to reinforce the structural steel reinforcement bars (rebar) on the bridges.
All told, more than 350,000-pounds of QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix were used in the interstate repair project.
