IN THE NEWS:
QUIKRETE® MAINTAINS NEW JERSEY INTERSTATE SYSTEM |
The QUIKRETE® Companies
are playing a significant part in the repair and rehabilitation of highways and bridges throughout New Jersey,
including ongoing work along Interstates I-80, I-78, I-287 and I-322.
Beginning in 2005, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has been working
throughout the night from about 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., in order to make repairs to these high-traffic
thoroughfares prior to the reopening of the roadways each morning. At present, more than 400 loads
of different QUIKRETE® concrete repair materials have been used in the extensive interstate projects.
Construction crews are primarily using QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix - Extended and QUIKRETE®
FastSet™ DOT Mix for roadway and bridge deck patching and full-depth repairs to reinforce the structural
steel reinforcement bars (rebar). QUIKRETE® FastSet™ DOT Mix was selected due to its consistency and
workability; setting in approximately 30 minutes and reaching a compressive strength of 4,500
pounds-per-square-inch in three hours.
For repairs underneath bridges, crews are relying upon QUIKRETE® FastSet™ Repair Mortar
and QUIKRETE® Shotcrete for vertical and overhead repars, and QUIKRETE® 5,000 Concrete Mix
for column projects.
QUIKRETE® FastSet™ Polymer Modified Structural Concrete - Extended Set, which is designed
for use with a ready mix truck or a mobile mixer, is also providing construction crews with an
extended working time of 60 minutes to allow additional time to place larger batches of product
and maintain continuous operations.
"QUIKRETE® Commercial-Grade Construction and Structural Repair Products are ideally suited
for repairing bridge decks, concrete parking lots, highways, runways, taxiways or any other
concrete surfaces," said Dennis Winchester, QUIKRETE® executive vice president. "These rapid
hardening, high early strength concrete materials offer superior consistency and workability
to reduce down-time and ensure these important roadways are back in service quickly."
According to January 2007 statistics from the NJDOT, there are approximately 13,500 miles of
paved road, bridges and ramps and more than 72 billion vehicle miles traveled each year in New Jersey. |
