Project Instructions

When working with cement-based products, always wear eye protection and waterproof gloves.

Step 1
Plan out the design and placement of your outdoor kitchen.

Step 2
Measure and stage the first course of corner blocks, according to the design pattern.

Step 3
Snap a chalk line on each side of the block.

QUIK-Tip: Use painters tape to secure plastic sheeting along all outside borders to protect the surrounding area.

Step 4
Level the four corners using QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix, mixed according to the directions on the bag.

Step 5
Line the inside of the perimeter chalk line with about ½” of QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix

Step 6
Place the first course of block on top of the bed of QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix, according to the diagram. Check that each block is level.

QUIK-Tip: When building the first course, it’s important to consider where the electrical cord for the mini refrigerator will go. To accommodate the cord, remove one of the RumbleStone mini pavers from the pattern.

Step 7
Once the QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix has become thumb print hard, use a jointing tool to consolidate and smooth the surface of the mix at the base of the first course of Rumblestone.

Step 8
Vertically pull up on the tape and plastic before the QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix sets hard, to provide a clean line.

Step 9
Allow the first course to remain undisturbed, until the mortar bed has become firm.

Step 10
Set the remaining courses in a running bond pattern, on top of the first course, bonding each respective course with QUIKRETE Advanced Polymer Construction Adhesive. Be sure the front, edges and corners of the each row match the row below.

QUIK-Tip: Twist each block as it’s placed on the row below to evenly spread the adhesive for the best bond.

Step 11
Make a countertop using QUIKRETE® Countertop Mix and place on the outdoor kitchen base. Protect the countertop by applying QUIKRETE® Acrylic Concrete Cure & Seal.

QUIK-Tip: The countertop should be poured and finished in multiple sections to help manage the size and weight of the concrete.

Step 12
Assemble the grill according to the manufactures directions and install along with the fridge to complete the outdoor kitchen.
