Casting a pair of concrete nesting tables is a project that provides both modern design form and function, all while taking space restrictions into account.
When working with cement-based products, always wear eye protection and waterproof gloves.
Step 1
Layout the desired height and width of the table mold with Legos; build up the mold brick by brick until desired width is reached.
Step 2
Place Lego support braces at the top of the mold to keep walls from bending outward due to the weight of the concrete.
Step 3
On the bottom of the mold place small Lego base plates. This allows for easy removal.
Step 4
Take the QUIKRETE Counter Top Mix in a 5 gallon bucket and mix in with clean tap water.
Step 5
Take spade and spoon into Lego form, adding about 3 inches at a time. Then take wooden dowel and push concrete mix down into mold, making sure to get concrete mix into corners. Vibrate the mold to release any air bubbles. Repeat this process until the mold is full.
Step 6
After pouring the concrete, level and smooth off the top of the mold. It is not vital that it is perfectly smooth as Lego side will facing towards the front.
Step 7
Leave the concrete and allow to cure for at least 20 hours before removing the mold.
Step 8
After the concrete has cured, remove Legos from the concrete.
QUIKTIP: Remove a few upper layers and the flip the mold removing bricks from the bottom. Needle nose plies makes removing bottom layers easier.
Step 9
Clean the Legos by flaking off easy to remove concrete. If concrete remains, use toothbrush and cool soapy water to remove excess concrete.
