Got a piece of furniture with a cheap, melamine top? Use it to upgrade your home with a sturdy and modern DIY piece of furniture.
When working with cement-based products, always wear eye protection and waterproof gloves.
Step 1
Screw the vinyl trim onto the edge of the melamine top of the existing stool, and tape the gap(s) using duct tape to close any holes or cracks.
Step 2
Support the vinyl base trim with two large zip ties, making a band to surround the mold, and seal the inside edges with generic silicone caulk to seal the mold.
Step 3
Mix the concrete, according to the instructions on the bag, and pour the mix into the mold. Tap around the vinyl edge to release any air bubbles.
Step 4
Let the concrete cure for at least 20 hours.
Step 5
Remove the vinyl trim edge and take off the concrete top.
Step 6
Unscrew the melamine top, remove it, then attach and screw on the concrete top using masonry anchors.
Step 7 (Optional)
Seal concrete with QUIKRETE Acrylic Concrete Cure & Seal, for a satin finish.
