Our float was even featured in a two page color spread in the Los Angeles Times

Our float, designed by John Ramirez, is a fun play off the story of the little three pigs. As the fairy tale goes the three little pigs build their homes with the intention of keeping out the Big Bad Wolf. The first little pig builds his house out of straw, the second little pig builds his house out of sticks and the Big Bad Wolf blows both houses down. The third little pig builds his house out of QUIKRETE® Concrete Mix and thus out-smarts the Big Bad Wolf. His dream home is safe thanks to QUIKRETE®.

FLOAT MATERIALS

The 120 year tradition of the Rose Parade requires that the entire surface of each float must be covered using a variety of flowers, seeds, bark, leaves and other natural materials. So what materials are we using?

  • The pigs consist of dried strawberry, farina flowers and powdered rice.
  • The straw house is made of real straw, oncidium orchids and cut strawflower.
  • The plywood house is covered in paper bark, birch twigs and flax seed.
  • The gardens in front of the straw and plywood houses are filled with purple iris, hot pink roses and Bells of Ireland.
  • The QUIKRETE® concrete mix house is covered in a combination of millet seed, poppy seed and dill seed.
  • The wheel barrel at the rear of float in front of the QUIKRETE® house is covered with silver leaf and carnation petals.
  • The bricks in the yard of the QUIKRETE® house are created with cranberry seed.
  • The garden in front of the QUIKRETE® house is filled with orange, green, lavender and pink roses.
  • The trees on the float are created with croton leaves, yellow button mums, orange lentils and redwood bark.
  • Water is created through dendrobium orchids, blue iris and galyx leaves.
