Upgrade a Toilet Tank Lid

Upgrade your toilet tank lid to maximize multi-tasking.

Project Instructions

When working with cement-based products, always wear eye protection and waterproof gloves.

Step 1
Place a piece of melamine down, and create a fence, larger than the existing toilet tank lid, with soft vinyl baseboard and hot glue.

Step 2
Place the existing toilet tank lid inside of the fence (and top down). Then, mix the Mold Star 30 (or similar moldable silicone material) and pour onto the lid.
QUIK-Tip: Use hot glue and soft vinyl trim to seal any holes in the existing tank lid, before mixing the Mold Star 30.

Step 3
Let the silicone cure overnight. Then, remove the existing toilet tank lid from the mold.

Step 4
Prepare the arms by removing any electrical parts and grinding the mounting ends. Bolt the mounting ends to a 12” mending plate.

Step 5
Place the hardware into the silicone mold. Then, mix the QUIKRETE Countertop Mix, according to the instructions on the back of the bag, and place into the mold.

Step 6
Vibrate the mold.
QUIK-Tip: Use an orbital sander, without a pad, for this step.

Step 7
Let cure for at least 18 hours.

Step 8
Remove the newly formed lid from the mold, place on the toilet tank, and insert the modified lamp arms into the protruding hardware.
